Sully Shih Tzu and Buddy in Mid September

Hello again,

Well, this Shih Tzu is noticing a weather change now that it is mid September. Seems like pop takes us for a walk almost daily now because it isn't as hot. Kind of a nip in the air in the morning and late evening walks. That must mean it is getting closer to our first snowfall. I wonder how Buddy is going to like it. When we got him, he had spent allot of time outside according to the Dumb Friends League. I know he doesn't like to get real hot, but I wonder how he likes being cold. I remember when Pop and I played football outside for about 1/2 hour in the snow a few years ago. It was so much fun. Well, I am sure we are going to find out soon.

Mom found some really good food from Royal Canin and I am really eating much better now. It is going to help me stay healthy and pop says that is important. I eat too much junk food. I guess I am just really spoiled like a lot of Shih Tzus are if their owners let them be and believe me, mom and pop really spoil me. Even Buddy has been getting in on the act lately. He watches me and then tries to get away with the same stuff. I have shown him how to be real coy and give that look to get anything he wants. You know, that poor old me stare. Works every time.

Normally we get a bath about every 3 days, but there were a few accidents around here today. Last night, pop gave us both a bath and then this morning pop took us for a walk. Buddy did his business but got some on him and pop had to give him another bath this morning when we got back. I was so worried I was going to have to get one also because usually I do after Buddy gets one. Pop said , no not today Sully, you are spared. Then, pop took me for across the street to see mom and a neighbor lady during their garage sale. There was a cute little dog and I must have expressed myself because the next thing you know, pop said I smelled like fish oil and guess what. Yep, I had to get a bath also. Pop wasn't real happy, but as always, he gave me the bath and cleaned me up. After the bath, I always have to have a long nap. I feel so clean.

That is pretty much the highlights for this week so far.

Will keep in touch.

Bye for now

Sully Shih Tzu's Brother in a Weak Moment

Hello again,

I had to share some pics with everyone of my brother who thinks at times he is a tough guy. Now does this look like he is so tough?

I really think he is a wimp even if he is 16lbs and I am only 10.4 lbs.

Sully Shih Tzu Brother Buddy - Wow - What Happened

Hello Again,

I am trying to make up for some lost time. This Shih Tzu has been so busy that everytime I promise I am going to write more, I get sidetracked. Not any more.

Here is another strange thing that happened almost exactly a week after Sully had his emergency trip to the hospital.

Buddy has really been coming around in his personality lately and has been trying to do alot of the things that Sully Cool Dog does. That is really cool to see until he does what he did.

He has been jumping on the master bed from the floor lately. He used to jump on the bench that was at the end of the bed and he was doing real well getting to the bed. He then started jumping from the floor and for the most part he was doing good also. Then came the moment.

He jumped, was just a little bit short and then it started. All of a sudden he threw up and mom and pop thought that was really wierd. Buddy thought mom and pop were upset and he jumped from the bed and pop got him outside where he threw up some more. The only problem was that this time, he seemed like he was having trouble breathing. This went on for about 10 minutes and finally mom was able to massage his throat and after about another 10 minutes, seemed like an hour, Buddy started to get back to normal breathing.

I guess that was this amounted to was the same thing as getting the wind knocked out of you. Never the less, between Buddy and me ( Sully Cool Dog ) there has been some really scary moments.

I guess that happens when you get excited and want to show off all the time like the Shih Tzu's do. We need alot of attention.

I will continue to be me all the time, which means I am sure there will be more things that are strange but funny that will be done as Buddy and I continue to be the clowns of Shih Tzu Land.

Sish Tzu Guarding the House

Hello Again,

There is a big Garage Sale going on across the street today and I have the Shih Tzu job of keeping an eye on everything. I can also see Mom, because she is over there helping. Pop was nice enough to take us for our second walk just a few minutes ago. Wow, that is almost 2 miles today since we went out earlier also.

Here are our Pics of Buddy and Me watching the hood again.

Ok, there you have it.

Have to go watch the yard.

Bye for a little while,

Sully

Sully Shih Tzu in August

Hello Again to Everyone,
Once again I have been a very busy Shih Tzu in the last month. There have been some pretty interesting things that happened around the Sully Shih Tzu home in August.
A couple weeks ago on a Friday night, Buddy ( my Shih Tzu brother) and I were wrestling around the house and I guess I got so stimulated that something very weird happened to me. I don't want to really explain it, but I will tell you some of the details, others you will have to just imagine.

It was about 9 pm and Buddy and I were wrestling in the front room. Pop was in the shower and mom was reading on her chair. All of a sudden, mom couldn't hear us wrestling, she thought that was strange so she called our names. Neither one of us answered, so she got up out of her chair and came to see what was going on. Well, she thought maybe I has messed on myself because it looked like some messy was hanging from my tail. As she got closer, she realized I wasn't moving and she really thought that was strange. She picked me up to take me outside and realized that I had a serious problem. I was so stimulated by the wrestling with Buddy that I ( lets just say, had all my blood in one location. Mom took me outside and then starting banging on the window for pop to come outside. Mom was holding me and when Pop say me, it looked like ( to him anyway) that I may have been attacked by a coyote, because he thought my internal organs were protruding out. I think you get the picture now of what happened. Any way, pop called the emergency animal clinic and tried to explain what had happened and that was comical in its own right. To end the story, we went to the emergency room and before we got there, I was all cured. They said that it was a good thing we still visited them because they have seen this before and the results weren't real good when it wasn't taken care of. I am so happy my mom and pop take care of me.

That was one of the crazy incidents that happened in the last month. There are a few more Shih Tzu moments and I will make another post before the day is over. I want to add some current pictures also.

I will talk to you all later

Bye for now

Love you all

Sully Shih Tzu Has Been Busy

Hello everyone,

Wow it has been a long time since Sully Shih Tzu I have posted. It has also been a very happy and also a very sad time for me.

Let start with sad.

My sister Chanel that used to live with me but went to Reno in October has passed away. I am very sad about that, she was attatcked by a dog that was a lot bigger than her and after about 8 days, she got an infection and had to be put out of her misery. She used to groom me and taught me how to be caring because she was so gentle with everyone. It just doesn't seem fair that these things happen but we little dogs have to be careful of the bigger ones. Pop won't let me out in the front yard anymore unless he checks everywhere to see if there are any dogs that I might try to greet. I get too carried away sometimes and think I am bigger than I am.

On the good side, my brother Buddy and I have been really getting along well. We slept alot during the real hot days in July when it gets to 98-101 almost daily. We have to hang out in the house alot with the Air Conditioner on until the evening, then we might wrestle a little bit and play. Now it is not quite as hot daily and we have been wrestling alot and mom found some food that we really like so our energy level is really getting high.

I have to go now, promise I wont wait as long. I know, I have promised before, but pop tells me things are in order at home, all the work he and mom have done is pretty much done now and there will be alot more time to let you know how Shih Tzu life is going.

Sully Cool Dog Garage Sale

Hello again,

Wow, Mom and Pop are having a garage sale and pop let me sit on his lap for a while with everyone out there. I really behaved good and didn't growl or bark at anyone ( well, except I growled at one person, but I am sure he deserved it)

Pop even let me go with him to put up the signs down the road for the sale.

Pop couldn't handle both myself and Buddy being out there so I was the lucky one. I hope that he doesn't decide to take only Buddy out there, I will get really upset if he does.

That is all I have for now, we are going to try and get some pics done later today when we are done.

Sully Cool Dog Catching Up

Hello,
I know it has been a long time since I have posted anything and with my new brother and mom and pop working around the house for the last month, I have found very little time to write.
I will tell you that my brother and I have been having alot of fun. We wrestle daily for hours at a time. We play very hard and that makes it easy to sleep at night because we are exhausted.

Buddy is starting to learn the routine around the house and is feeling very comfortable.

We did finally have our first disagreement and it was in front of pop. I guess I got a little too aggressive with Buddy and he got really mad at me for a minute. I kind of learned my lesson with him but I still like to push him to the edge. Just because he is bigger than me, doesn't really scare me, because I think I am faster than him.

Anyway, we have been having a great time and I will post some pics this week, hopefully of us playing.

Be back later

Shih Tzu Brother for 1 Week Now

Hello,
Sully Shih Tzu and Buddy have been getting along so good. Sully is very happy to have a brother to play with now. Amazing they have been together for a week now, and no fights of any type, they have had some great Shih Tzu wrestling matches and they are always looking for each other if they lose track of where the other is.

Anyway, lots of stuff to do around the house, will write later with some details of what we have been doing.

Last week you saw Buddy's before pics, these are the after pics.

And remember, these pics are of Buddy, but don't forget who the star is of this blog.

Sully Shih Tzu has a Brother

Hello everyone, I have a Shih Tzu brother now. I am getting used to him, his name is Buddy. I didn't know brothers that were new would weigh more than me or be older than me. He is 4 years old and I am almost 2. Mom was watching TV the other morning and saw my brother on 9 news and said that he was going to be my brother. Sure enough, she went to the Dumb Friends League downtown Denver and got first in line and was able to adopt him. I have pics of him here. I also included one of my pics, remember, he may be the new kid on the block and he weighs in at 16.4 and I am only 10.4, but as I see it I still rule. Pop is showing me how to share and I am starting to learn and it isn't as painful as I thought it would be. I will keep you informed as I get a little more time to write. For now, enjoy the pics, oh by the way, he is going to be groomed Monday so he will look different, we will call these the before pics.

Oh yea, Let's don't forget me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Missed a Shih Tzu Blizzard

Wow, we just missed a blizzard on Friday. Shih Tzu’s like snow, but a blizzard in April? We were supposed to get about 16” of snow and the storm went about 20 miles south of us and all we got was a few flurries. I am so glad that we didn’t have to have all that wet sloppy snow this time of year. It is hard for me to do my business outside in that slop. Anyway, I am very thankful for me that it went to the south.

I just want a few months of really nice dry weather. The thunderstorms are cool but why do the jets fly in the sky every time the light flashes. Don’t they understand that it is dangerous? Pop tells me that that is thunder, well duh pop, thanks for the information. I am just a Shih Tzu and you can’t expect me to know that. I just say what relates to me.

We go for walks a lot now and a ride in the car almost every night, Shih Tzu’s love to travel and whenever I get a chance to go in the car or truck, I pounce on it.

The grass is really getting green now. It is really neat because I get to lie on the green grass and chew my bone. On warm days the green grass is cool on my body. Shih Tzu’s don’t really like the warm weather so in the shade and on the grass is where it is at.

The days are longer now and I get to play ball with pop in the back yard now after he comes home from work. That is cool. Who wants to be locked in a house for as long as this winter has been? Not me, it is fun going outside and keeping the rabbits and squirrels in their place. They just can’t mess with Sully Cool Dog. Not in my House.

I have been working out lately. How does a 10 lb Shih Tzu work out? No I don’t’ lift weights, I go on mile long walks with pop and we go up a hill and look at the Denver city skyline from there. He thinks it is really cool up there; all I get out of it is sniffing the grass for foreign objects and also to learn my way back. Sometimes I think he is goofy on what he thinks is cool. Walk a mile to see a view? My goodness pop, why can’t we just take the car or truck? Oh well.

Shih Tzu Baseball

I love this time of year. This is my second spring in life and last year this Shih Tzu didn’t know what was going on when it comes to baseball. All I knew was that I was able to hang around with pop a lot because he watches a lot of the Rockies games, or at least he does until mid May because by then they are usually out of any pennant race. I hope they get into at least July this year because I get to relax with him and sit on his lap while he tunes into the games.. Anytime I get to monopolize his time if a good thing for me because I am a high maintenance Shih Tzu.

I was really excited when the weather started turning nice here in March. We had several 70 degree days and it was pretty dry. Then April came. Here is what I don’t get. Isn’t April closer to summer than March? If so, why did we end up with a lot of Snow around Easter? At least most of it melted before the end of the day. We don’t get the super freezing cold this time of year.

The grass is green now and I am really enjoying being outside. Even Shih Tzu’s get cabin fever. It is nice to sit outside on my patio chair ( yes my chair, I deserve it)
The flowers are coming up, like I really care, but pop is writing this and he thinks it means that the warmer weather is coming. Here is what I think – I have a place to dig and bury my bones but don’t tell anyone that or I will be in big trouble.

I am going now, will see you soon.

Sully Shih Tzu March Activities

Hello from Sully Shih Tzu.
Once again it has taken a while to post here, but I wanted to let everyone know how I have been lately in Shih Tzu land.

This is my second spring in Colorado and it has been real nice considering the winter we had. The skies have been clear for the most part and temps in the 60’s and 70’s most of March, except for Thursday morning. 5" of snow. All of the snow had melted in the first 2 weeks of March and I was able to claim my yard again. It has been fun running around chasing the ball pop throws and also going after the squirrels. I wish I could climb a tree so I could hang with the little guys. Oh well, the snow melts alot faster this time of year, in fact most of it is gone already.

I am getting close to getting a brother. Mom is going to get me a brother sometime around the middle to the end of April. His name is going to be Toby. That will be so cool because I will have someone to play with all the time. I am sure he won’t have to go to work like pop does. I miss him when he is gone, but I like hanging around with mom. She takes me everywhere. I get to meet people at the place she exercises, she takes me in to meet them and I get a little nervous, but I am getting over it. I think it is fun when I go in there with her after she works out.

I have been a very stubborn Shih Tzu lately because I won’t eat sometimes. Mom and Pop try to make me eat and they keep working at it until they find the right thing for me, but I really make them work at it. I still don’t think they get the fact that it is all about Sully Cool Dog the Shih Tzu and I will eat when I feel like it. I know the dog food they have fed me is not on the recall list. I am glad of that. What is up with that anyway? How does stuff like that happen? Mom is really careful about what I do get to eat.

I took a walk today with pop, kind of cold but we made a half mile up a hill and then we got to see the whole city of Denver from there. He thinks it is cool, but what do I care about a view. All I really do anyway is smell the trail. I have to remember my way back so I can take the lead from pop.

Ok, I have to go, I promise I will post more often- I have also been working on my website- I didn’t like how the links worked so I just messed it all up, started from scratch again.
Bye from Shih Tzu Land

10 lbs of Shih Tzu Terror

Last Monday the weather was very nice, one of the nicest days we have had in a long time. I was just minding my own business in my Shih Tzu world when I spotted this guy out in front. I usually give them a nice bark as a greeting ( loud, but always wag my tail).
Something happened that got me all excited. I realized he wasn’t a neighbor and he was looking around the yard. I was getting very nervous about that so I had to warn mom.
By the time she came to see what I was excited about he had jumped the fence to get to the back yard.
Talk about 10 lbs of Shih Tzu terror coming unleashed. I went absolutely out of my Shih Tzu mind My hair was standing up so straight it looked like I had a flat top and you could land a plane on it. I was jumping on anything that would get me to a window, barking my brains out, completely coming unglued. Heck I have seen pop come unglued before, but no way can he even compare with what I did. I ripped thru the house, kitchen window, bedroom window, upstairs windows, living room windows, on the bed, night stand (you get the point)
Mom recognized him as a person reading the meter and she was talking to him and couldn’t hear him. Finally he was able to get the things done he needed to, but then, I was let outside and I went thru every square foot that he traveled and to just explain to you, no where is there any scent but mine on the ground. If he ever comes back he will not know where he was. Oh now I am told humans don’t really mark their territories. Oh well, this Shih Tzu does.

Ok, I am tired from that episode, weather is getting much nicer, and I am going to lounge for a while

By for now

Sully Shih Tzu Can Almost See the Yard

It’s true. This Shih Tzu can almost see some of the grass in the back yard. The snow is finally stating to melt and we are going longer between snow storms.
The way I see it as a Shih Tzu is that the front yard will be snow free about the time the Rockies start playing baseball. I sure hope it is.
That is only about 6 weeks from now.
It is kind of cool because I can climb the ice and I feel so much taller. I am now 3’ high Shih Tzu when I am in the front yard. How do I figure – 2’ of snow and my 1’ height.

This is more like Shih Tzu weather now. Not too hot and not too cold. Pop is taking walks now and that is cool but with the better weather, he wants to go a lot farther than I do. I have to just stop in the middle of the walk so he will take me back. He gets really mad at me and says lets go. I am a Shih Tzu and if you don’t know, we are very stubborn.
I end up always getting my way, but I think he is going to go out at times when he doesn’t have to take me so that kind of bums me out.

Today with the weather getting warmer, I was able to sit on my chair on the patio in the back yard. That was kind of cool since I hadn’t done that in a while. I can also move about the yard some now and it is like having a new yard since it has been covered in snow and I can’t remember what was where.

Our neighbor has a new puppy now and I can’t wait to be able to antagonize it when it spends more time outside in a few more weeks.

Talk to you later

I Am Going to Get a Brother

One of these days soon I am going to get a brother. Mom has been looking for a brother for me and sometime in April I am going to have a buddy to play with. Not that I don’t mind playing with mom and pop all the time but I do miss my sister Chanel. It is nice to play tug of war and chase each other around when ever we want to. My brothers name is going to be Toby. Of course it is not as cool as Sully (here goes the sibling rivalry)
I am going to have to break him in right and show him who is the boss. It will be nice to help him groom, I remember doing that with my sister all the time.
I thought I would post this article below so mom and pop understand about how my new brother may be chewing a lot so they don’t get upset.

My Puppy Chews a Lot - Mostly on Me

Puppies who chew are normal. Chewing is a natural and necessary puppy behavior. Puppies at about four months of age are more prone to chewing because this is when they usually start teething. Other dogs that chew, especially when you are not at home, may be suffering from separation anxiety. Separation anxiety requires an entire new behavior treatment plan. In this article, I want to give you a few tips for your typical, normal-behaving puppy chewer!
Some things you can do is try to teach your puppy not to chew inappropriate items. You can sit on the floor with him, casually place an object before him like a shoe, or a pencil (something he has chewed on inappropriately). As puppy approaches the object, give a firm "No," and replace the item with appropriate chew toy. When puppy takes the appropriate chew toy, praise him. You might even offer him a treat to try and reenforce the appropriate behavior and also.....that chewing on treats is alright too.
Have a variety of chew toys on hand. Give him no more than 3 or 4 chew toys at a time. Rotate the chew toys to provide variety and to help stimulate interest. Puppies can be compared to children who enjoy a new toy or returning to a toy they have not played with in a while.
Keep plenty of Bitter Apple Spray on hand and use it on spots where you find puppy has chewed or is about to chew. This has been the absolute best trick I have ever found in keeping puppies/dogs away from objects I don't want them chewing on.
My Puppy Bites my Hands When we Play!
If you have ever watched puppies playing together or moms playing with their puppies, you will notice how they nip and bite each other sometimes to the point of what sounds like a blood curling scream.....Very Normal Behavior, however. Not so pleasant though when puppy plays with you and attempts the same kind of antics. You will need to teach puppy not to play biting games with you. Try screaming: "Ouch!" Walk away from her for several minutes. You don't want to give her attention for this behavior. You want to plainly tell her "THAT HURTS," and I do not like it!!! If she just barely touches your skin with a little nip, just gently say "No." Try feeding her treats straight from your hand and do not throw them on the floor or leave them out for her to nibble on. Sort of like, puppies/dogs will not bite the hands that feed them, most usually, unless they have some kind of severe psychological disorder. You can also grab her mouth, hold it together firmly and say "NO BITE."

Sully Shih Tzu

Once again it has been a while since I wrote an entry to this blog, but what can a Shih Tzu do when it snows 7 straight weeks and I stay in the house most of the time.
I do get out when mom and pop take me for our nightly rides just in case someone is brave enough to walk their dogs and I get a chance to say hello to them. The good news is the weather is starting to get better and I don’t live in upstate New York. I feel for you guys up there. Over 100 “ of snow and still counting. I was acting like the end of the world here when we had 74” in 7 weeks. I hope your lakes freeze over soon so the wind can’t pick up the moisture and drop it on you as snow.
We are looking at maybe more snow this Tuesday and Wed and they don’t know how much. That is a warning in itself.
The other night pop took me out for a ride, he knew I was getting bored and he had to go drop some books off at the library (can you believe that, I only thought he watched sports, but he reads too) anyway, I am always looking for my brothers and sisters in the hood and I saw what I thought was one and I got real vocal with him. Pop said it was a Coyote and it was only about 3 blocks from the house. I guess that is why he is always on my tail when I go out especially at night. He said that Coyotes are not my friend and that they are looking for food and I would be just the right meal. As long as I am in the car and that Coyote is outside, I know I am a lot tougher than he is. Anyway, I have to watch myself especially since a lot of the snow has melted and I am back to exploring the backyard again.
I got a haircut today and I feel so much better . I really like it when I get cleaned up. I am used to it now and I don’t even whine anymore when I go in. The ladies there really like me because I am so cute. It really helps my Shih Tzu ego out a lot.

I will leave now and good luck to upstate New York.

Just Shih Tzu Chillin Lately

Hello all,

Well this Shih Tzu hasn't been doing much since the last post. It has been pretty much just snow about every 5 days, so I have just been kind of hanging inside the house, going outside when I need to and taking a few rides with mom and pop. We haven't been much above freezing for about 5 weeks now, but I think after tomorrow's minor storm( 1"-3") we are going to warm up some. I haven't seen the grass in the back yard since Dec 19th. We still have about 15" of sow in the back yard so I have to just walk on the trails that pop build which are frozen solid. I can stay outside for about 4-5 minutes before my paws start to hurt. When that happens, pop picks me up and carries me inside because he knows that I am not smart enough to figure out what is happening. He doesn't want me to get frostbite. I just kind of stop moving and lift my back paw when that happens, but pop stays outside with me the whole time and will not let me out of his sight. I am looking forward to some warmer weather so I can chase the squirrels that seem to own the back yard right now. Once it gets nicer out,

I will rule again!

We went out for a ride tonight and stopped at Starbucks drive thru so mom could get an ice tea. Pop always rolls the window down so I can act real cute and hopefully get a biscuit from the guy that gives the drink out. Tonight he saw me and said I was really good tonight because I didn't growl or bark. If you remember from my earlier posts that I was really getting on them since they spoiled me a while back by always having a biscuit, then they went a few times without having any and I was really letting them have it.

What I can't figure out is why when Mom goes to another place, I guess it is a bank, she stops at the machine in the drive thru and there is no one to give me a biscuit. I don't get it, how does she get stuff from the machine with no one there? What a confusing world for a Shih Tzu.

Anyway, Have to go now - Bye All

Enough Snow - OK?

Hello All,

Sorry once again that it has taken so long to post to my blog. I have an issue with my typist, seems like he is just a little too busy for me at times. I am going to have to have a serious talk with him to see if he still really wants this job.

I mean, does it look like there has been that much snow that he has to spend most of his time shoveling? Just because we have added another mountain top in Colorado in my front yard. At least it is called Sully's Peak. I figure this glacier will be there until, lets see, June?. Global warming? Where is the global warming at?

Anyway, the back yard is just as bad, so where do I do my business? At least mom knows that the old adage that it runs downhill is true. After the first snow storm on Dec 20th, 21st (big blizzard), some of it actually melted before we had our second snow storm(blizzard 7 days later) I was able to climb up the hill in the back and went to my favorite place (been very confusing lately because I can't get the scent of where I have been) anyway, as I was saying I went up the hill and did my thing. The next thing I know is that I feel good and mom is calling pop at work and said, Guess what, it really does roll downhill. Get the point?

Oh and we had another snowstorm last Friday, lets see 3 snow storms in 3 weeks. And it looks like another one coming this Thursday and Friday. What is this, the North Pole? Anartica? So far we have had 50" of snow at our house since Dec 20th. Not complaining, just stating the facts.

Here is a tip for those of you that have pets in cold climates like this. If they can't do their business, give them a dab of vaseline in the back part, that will help us. It gets so cold outside sometimes that it starts to go then can't. I hate to have to write about this, but if it helps out, I am happy about that.

I haven't been eating too good since my sister Chanel (poodle) left and went to Reno to join Coco ( another poodle and real sisters). But mom got really smart one day and told the vet and she suggested a meal of rice and boiled hamburger. Wow, that was the ticket, I really like that stuff and now I eat much better than I did. That is another hint if you have a Shih_Tzu that is as stubborn as me. I like to be spoon fed at times.

Ok, I am going to leave now

Bye all
