My Best Friend has Gone to Heaven

Hello Everyone,

This is by far the hardest entry into my blog that pop and I have done yet.
I lost my very best dog friend in the world on Wednesday June 24 2009 about 5:45pm.
It is with a sad heart that I inform you that Buddy has passed away. He was my very best friend.

There was a time when my 2 family sisters Chanel and Coco, 2 poodles had to leave and go to Mom and Pops daughter in Reno because both Mom and Pop were not well enough to take care of them and the daughter volunteered to give them a home that we knew would be good. The problem was that I was now alone and I was used to a lot more activity. Mom and Pop both did what they could to love me and keep me happy as you can see from earlier entries.

One April morning my mom saw a beautiful face on channel 9, (9 news) and it turned out that it was Buddy. Mom fell in love with him; he was up for adoption at the Denver Dumb Friends League, pop told her how to get to there. Mom had a Dr. appointment that morning and had to drive across Denver to get in line first. She was determined to get him, she made it just in time to be first and was able to adopt Buddy. He came home the next day and we were friends right off the bat even though he was 16.5 lbs and I was 10 lbs at the time.

We played all the time, barked at the neighbors, protected the house and I showed Buddy how to get spoiled. Buddy had gone thru almost 5 years of abuse prior to coming to us.

Buddy became part of my blog entries and he became a much loved dog, supporting the reason why he was called Buddy. His original name was Butter, but Buddy was an easy change to make.

We had a a very tough day Wednesday, we spent the evening in the back yard, thank you lord for making the weather that night beautiful so we could light up all the torches and just remember our best friend.

There were a lot of tears shed, a lot of love shared, and a great friend that may be gone from our lives physically, but I guarantee you, never from our thoughts. A piece of us died Wednesday night, but we were also very grateful that we could give Buddy 2 plus years of love that he never got on his first 5 years.

Pop says that Buddy was the most humble dog he had ever seen. He would wait until Lena or I would eat before he would, the same with drinking water. Buddy couldn’t wait for pop to come home from work, he would get so excited, meet him at the door in the Laundry room and pop would pick him up and give him a big hug. There were other times that pop would just go up to him and say, Buddy you need a hug? Buddy’s tail would wag and pop would pick him up and just give him the biggest hug you have ever seen and tell him he loved him.

Buddy would hang around mom in the morning because he knew she was going to feed him. We figure he had to fight for his food before he came here by the way he acted. He was around big dogs before and he had to wait his turn.

Buddy couldn’t wait to go on walks with pop whenever the chance was there. Most days this was part of the routine and sometimes 2 times a day. He would walk with me and then later when Lena came to us, with all three of us, Pop had his challenges juggling 3 leases, but you could see he loved it. He always gave us the length of the leash and let us explore the trail, which was almost a mile long. I heard him say to mom that he loved the curiosity we showed on the walks. Buddy always walked on the left side and in the grass just off the trail. I walked on the right side right at the edge and then when Lena came, she was all over the place.

Buddy brought us so much love and to think he had to go thru so much before he came to us. He was so gentle, always laid back, but could get it on when it came time to play. Buddy and Lena would chase each other all over the house almost nightly around 9pm. That is already missed. It is much quieter in the house.

It is hard to say good bye to him, all of us are having a hard time but that is only because we loved him sooooo much.

I am putting some pictures in here of the time we spent outside Wednesday night of the yard that we now call Buddy’s Paradise. He loved the back yard. It was safe for him, area to explore, lounge chairs and benches for him to take naps on when the weather was nice and plenty of activity with the squirrels, birds and neighbors.

Also are some pictures of Buddy the day we brought him home from the Denver Dumb Friends League and a picture of a few days before he passed.

We hope you scan back thru some of the stories that involved Buddy and say goodbye to him also.

You wonder where 2 years went so fast when you lose someone that you have spent time with and love so much. If I was told 2 years ago that Buddy would be gone, I would have thought it would be an eternity, not so, it went by fast, just glad he was my best dog friend.

Below are some pictures of Wednesday night and Buddy when he came to us and one of his last pictures
